Kansas State University’s 2016 All-University Homecoming Philanthropy 5K Run/Walk raised $5,300 for Fort Riley USO. The donation was presented Jan. 18 at the K-State Alumni Association Alumni Center in Manhattan.

K-State alumni, students, friends and community members raised the money by participating in the 5K Run/Walk, which kicked off a week of activities for K-State’s Homecoming last October.

“We had 1,098 runner and walkers and more than 100 volunteers participating in the 5K,” said Marcus Kidd, K-State Alumni Association assistant director of student programs. ”The 5K is a popular event that sets the pace for Homecoming week and helps the community by raising funds for a different nonprofit organization each year.”

Fort Riley USO is committed to sharing a touch of home to troops and their family members by offering deployment care packages, homecoming kits, support for transitioning service members, a state-of-the-art “home away from home” center and much more.

Homecoming is sponsored each year by the Alumni Association and the student Homecoming committee. For more information, visit www.k-state.com/homecoming.
