The K-State Salina campus is proud to celebrate its semicentennial anniversary. Throughout 2015, alumni and friends will have the opportunity to celebrate the tradition of K-State Salina's campus and discover its future.

In 1965, the Air Force base on Centennial Road became Schilling Institute, which would soon offer the first computer science degree in the state. Four years later, it was renamed Kansas Technical Institute and then in 1988 it was renamed Kansas College of Technology. With the approval of former Gov. Joan Finney, the campus officially became Kansas State University Salina in 1991. Today, K-State Salina offers 16 academic programs from professional pilot and airport management to social work and personal financial planning.

The celebration kicks off at the All-University Open House at K-State Salina from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 11. K-State Salina’s Open House is a family-friendly event dedicated to education, entertainment and energizing the Wildcat spirit. The community is invited to learn more about life on the K-State Salina campus with 40 booths on display across campus exhibiting student clubs and organizations, class projects, academic information and fun, interactive demonstrations. Enjoy activities including flight team pancake breakfast, bottle rocket build and launch, Garmin's Glass Cockpit airplane simulator, chemistry demonstrations, vehicle displays and more. On April 17, K-State Salina invites the public to attend the Semicentennial Celebration with an evening honoring the campus's golden anniversary. Enjoy dinner, dessert, specialty cocktails and a dueling pianos show. Experience K-State Salina's history and learn about future plans. Golden anniversary activities will continue throughout the fall, culminating at the second annual The Art of the Science wine walk on Sept. 11. Join in commemorating Schilling Institute, Kansas Technical Institute, Kansas College of Technology and K-State Salina.
