Kansas State University ranks No. 1 in the state of Kansas for the best-value education, according to a new study from SmartAsset. The financial data and technology company studied four-year universities across the state, considering factors such as tuition, student living costs, scholarships and grants, and the average starting salaries of graduates.

K-State graduates have an average starting salary of $45,200, the highest in the state. K-State also has the highest student retention rate, at 81 percent, as well as some of the lowest student living costs.

“We are proud of this new ranking and how it celebrates the high-quality education students receive at Kansas State University,” said Amy Button Renz ’76, ’86, K-State Alumni Association president and CEO. “A degree from K-State is a great value, and provides the tools our students need to succeed in their careers after they graduate.”

Providing the best-possible undergraduate and graduate educational experience is a key part of the K-State 2025 plan, which drives the university towards its goal to become a top 50 public research university by 2025. K-State students can pursue more than 250 majors and options, and more than 3,800 courses are offered each semester.

Every year, K-State awards $26 million in scholarships, with an average of $4,978 in scholarships and grants per student. The Alumni Association annually awards more than $350,000 in student scholarships with funding provided by local K-State alumni and friends and Alumni Association programming.

Other schools in the SmartAsset study included Baker University, Emporia State University, Friends University, MidAmerica Nazarene University, Pittsburg State University, Southwestern College, University of Kansas, Washburn University and Wichita State University.
