The K-State Choirs scholarship concert event Rhapsody is back again in 2016 with a performance of Carl Orff's stunning masterpiece Carmina Burana. Because of an overwhelming audience response to the event last year, K-State has reserved the 1,800 seat Muriel Kauffman Theatre, home of the Kansas City Lyric Opera.

The concert is at 6 p.m. April 10 at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts in Kansas City, Missouri. Tickets are available now through the Kauffman Center

The inaugural Rhapsody event took place at the Kauffman Center in 2014, allowing K-State choral students to partner with professional musicians to bring purple to Kansas City's art scene.

"This concert is a way to get purple to Kansas City," Julie Yu Oppenheim, co-director of choral studies, said of the inaugural event. "K-State has a good athletics presence in Kansas City. We have a good academic presence with K-State Olathe. We want to have an arts presence, too."

The 2016 concert will feature the Kansas City Ballet, Lawrence Children's Choir, Flint Hills Children's Choir and Flint Hills Masterworks Chorale performing alongside the K-State Grand Chorus. The show also will include special performances from the K-State Concert Choir and members of the Music@K-State (School of Music, Theatre, and Dance) faculty.

Nearly 2,000 individuals have attended Rhapsody over the past two years in Helzberg Hall, raising more than $100,000. The proceeds from ticket sales and donations not only help create this special event, but they also benefit students directly through choral scholarships. Hundreds of students have participated over the past two years, and because of Rhapsody, the K-State Choirs has been able to pledge nearly $90,000 in student scholarships.

Order your tickets now — more than half the seats for Rhapsody 2016 already have been filled. Learn more about the event on Facebook
