Young Wildcat fans got a taste of what it’s like to train as a Kansas State University student-athlete during a series of Kids Clinics during the annual Catbacker Tour.

Co-sponsored by K-State Athletics and the K-State Alumni Association, the summer Catbacker Tour gives Athletics and Alumni Association officials a chance to visit Catbacker clubs in Kansas. The clubs contribute to the Ahearn Scholarship Fund for student-athletes and help increase awareness of and support for K-State athletic programs.

This is the second year the Kids Clinics have been included as part of the Catbacker tour. The clinics, which take place the same day as the Catbacker dinners, are located in various places, usually in local YMCAs or elementary schools.

“Each clinic is an opportunity for kids to participate in drills and games with K-State student-athletes,” said Gavin Hargrave, associate director of alumni programs for the Alumni Association. “It gives them a chance to meet some of the players while also learning a few things.”

This year, Kids Clinics took place in Dodge City, Garden City, Colby, Hays, Topeka, Hutchinson and Wichita. More than 300 kids participated in the events.

Have a young Wildcat fan in your family and want to keep the fun going all year long? Sign them up for the Junior Wildcats Club. The age requirement to be a part of the club is now as soon as the child celebrates his or her 4th birthday. The maximum age for all members is 12 years old Sept. 1.

The cost is $20 for current K-State Alumni Association or Ahearn Fund members; others pay $25. Membership includes a membership card; T-shirt; birthday card from Willie the Wildcat; quarterly newsletter and e-newsletter; free ticket to all volleyball, women's basketball and baseball home games; and a discounted ticket to one select football and men's basketball game (based on availability).
