Does your family “bleed purple”? Do you have a legacy of Kansas State University graduates? Do you gather with relatives for annual tailgating events? Is your connection to K-State a symbol of your connection to your family?

If so, the Chimes Junior Honorary encourages you to apply for the “Family of the Year” program, which recognizes families who have demonstrated their dedication to the K-State community and carry on the Wildcat legacy. Selected by a committee, the winning family will be recognized as the K-State Family of the Year during the 2015 Family Weekend. Recognition includes being introduced on the field at the home football game Sept. 19, attending a brunch hosted by Chimes Junior Honorary and the K-State Student Union, and receiving an engraved plaque.

"The Family of the Year program is a great way to honor K-State families who have shown great dedication to the Wildcat family," said Kaylee Engle, vice president of public relations of Chimes Junior Honorary. "Chimes has sponsored this program for numerous years now. We love having the opportunity to recognize these outstanding families as well as meet them at the honorary brunch."

Chimes, the junior honorary, selects the university's Family of the Year based on three criteria: how the family is affiliated with the university; the way they show their loyalty and pride in Kansas State University; and what role family plays in their lives. The tradition traces back at least as far as the 1960s.

In 2014, the award celebrated four generations of the Conrow family, who have been steadfast Kansas State University fans since 1913. The Conrows gather in Manhattan every year for Thanksgiving, which often ends with a family football game at Memorial Stadium. Supporters of university athletics, the family has had season football tickets since 1940.
