Meet the new members of the Alumni Association board of directors

K-State Alumni Communications

The K-State Alumni Association board of directors will transfer leadership and welcome five new members at its annual meeting June 3-4, 2016.  

Dan Yunk ’71, ’75, ’87, Manhattan, Kansas, will serve as the 2016-17 chair of the board of directors. Travis Lenkner ’01, Chicago, Illinois, will become immediate past chair, and Alan Fankhauser ’82, Brookfield, Wisconsin, will serve as the new chair-elect. 

The five new members of the board will serve four-year terms and will continue to June 2020. 

Debra Downing Ball ’81
Eureka, Kansas


Ball earned her bachelor’s degree in speech pathology and audiology in 1981 and was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. Today, she is a speech/language pathologist for the Eureka Unified School District. Ball is a member of the Kansas Speech-Language-Hearing Association and the American Speech-Hearing Association. She also is a longtime volunteer for the Greenwood County Alumni Club. Ball and her husband, Phillip, have two daughters: Dr. Jamie Ball ’10, Sayre, Pennsylvania, and Kelsie Ball Salazar ’11, Lenexa, Kansas.

Candace Hart Duncan ’75
Bethesda, Maryland


Duncan graduated magna cum laude in 1975 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. While at K-State, she was a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Chimes and Mortar Board. Duncan retired from KPMG in 2013 as the Washington, D.C., managing partner and a member of the KPMG board. She now is consulting for KPMG and serving on three corporate boards. In 2014, Duncan was named the alumni fellow for K-State’s College of Business Administration. She also serves as a Kansas State University Foundation trustee.

William Keller ’72
Pratt, Kansas

Keller earned a pre-law degree in 1972 and was a member of K-State’s wrestling team. He is the president and owner of Stanion Wholesale Electric Company. Keller has served on boards of the KSU Foundation and the Kansas 4-H Foundation. He and his wife, Cindy, are trustees of the KSU Foundation and members of the K-State Athletics National Leadership Circle. They have three children, Sarah Keller, Boston, Massachusetts, John Keller ’04, Lawrence, Kansas, and Amanda Keller Funk ’10, Goessel, Kansas.

Jaime Mendez ’94
Chatsworth, California


Mendez earned his degree in social sciences in 1994. He was a free safety for K-State’s football team and also was team co-captain. He is a member of the inaugural class of the football program’s Ring of Honor, which recognizes players who distinguished themselves on and off the field, and was inducted into the K-State Sports Hall of Fame in 2013. Mendez is the CEO of Ternion Merchant Services, a provider of electronic commerce and payment services. He and his wife, Essence Atkins, have one son, Varro.

Skye Hang Nguyen ’97
Olathe, Kansas


Nguyen earned a bachelor’s in public relations from K-State in 1997 and a master’s in business administration from DeVry University in 2003. She is the director of marketing and communications at NCM Associates. While at K-State, Nguyen was president of the Vietnamese Student Association and a member of Sigma Lambda Gamma and Golden Key. She served as a member of the Alumni Association’s Multicultural Alumni Council from 2011 to 2015. Nguyen and her husband, Luis Rodriguez, have two children, Nicolas and Lucas.
