The K-State Alumni Association continues to add and enhance programs that reach out to students and help them connect with the Alumni Association while they are on campus. Two new events were Grad Expo and International Student and Family Fun Day.

More than 120 K-State students who will graduate in December attended the Grad Expo at the K-State Alumni Center on Oct. 8.

Sponsored by the Alumni Association and Varney's, the Grad Expo provided 13 vendors for students to visit throughout the day to help prepare for commencement and to make the transition from students to alumni.

Students who attended the event were able to order their caps and gowns, diploma frame and the official K-State class ring. Information was available on the benefits of being a member of the Alumni Association. Graduates receive their first year of membership free as a gift from their college.

"The connection the K-State Alumni Association makes with the students while they are on campus is extremely important," said Megan Jurgensmeier, associate director of membership, K-State Alumni Association. "The experience they have as a student plays a key role in staying connected with them after they have graduated. We hope this fairly new event helps soon-to-be graduates as we continue to be a link for life to our alumni and friends."

Graduates also were given the opportunity to visit with K-State Athletics about young alumni ticket pricing, as well as with representatives from Alumni Association partners Liberty Mutual, Collegiate Insurance Resources and K-State Powercat Financial Counseling.

The Association also offered free professional photos for resumes, and prizes were given away included a $100 Visa gift card, a $50 Varney’s gift card, two diploma fames, an Amazon.com gift card and a Keurig coffee maker.

Details including time and date will be announced soon for the spring Grad Expo for May, July and August graduates.

International K-State students and their families were invited to the K-State Alumni Center on Oct. 5 for the inaugural International Student and Family Fun Day. More than 150 attendees representing 26 countries enjoyed international desserts, a live DJ, face-painting, prize giveaways and more.

Attendees had the opportunity to learn more about what the K-State Alumni Association has to offer, including ways to stay connected after they graduate. Association staff members spoke with guests and learned more about the international student experience at K-State.

"Incorporating the whole family at this event was important because as an international student at K-State it's not just the student who has to adjust to the new culture, it’s the whole family," said Jessica Elmore, assistant director of multicultural programs for the K-State Alumni Association. “We wanted to create a fun environment that the whole family could enjoy."

The Alumni Association is making plans for a spring International Student and Family Fun Day.
