Those of us fortunate enough to experience The Pride of Wildcat Land in person know how outstanding the Kansas State University band is. Recently, the band received national recognition for their excellence. In December 2014, the band received the Sudler Trophy from the John Philip Sousa Foundation, which is given every two years to a college or university marching band that has demonstrated the highest musical standards and innovative marching routines and ideas for several years.

This success is even more impressive when you realize the K-State marching band budget is far below other notable national band programs, many of which have budgets five times larger. With your help, we can close that gap and help ensure the band’s continued success.

K-State couple continues longtime support with gift to new welcome center

Virginia and Perry Peine have supported nearly every college, program and activity at Kansas State University. Now they’re adding the new Berney Family Welcome Center to that long list by contributing to the Career and Employment Services area of the new welcome center, located in the east side of Memorial Stadium. The southwest gate leading into campus off 17th Street, by the welcome center, was also contributed by the Peines.

“We think the welcome center in the old stadium is a nice idea,” the Peines said. “It is a good location and will serve the university well. We also like its proximity to the Peine Gate.”

The Peines grew up in Manhattan and met in the fifth grade at the former Eugene Field Elementary School. Their relationship continued at K-State, where the couple got engaged. Perry graduated in 1943 with a degree in civil engineering, and Virginia received her home economics education degree in 1944. They celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary on June 8, 2015.
