On Aug. 25, Kansas State University hosted its first convocation, picnic and pep rally for freshmen, transfer students and international students, according to the Kansas State Collegian. The events took place in Bramlage Coliseum and Bill Snyder Family Stadium.

Invited to speak at the convocation were Distinguished Young Alumni award recipients Nick Piper, a 2008 alumnus, and Justine Sterling, a 2007 alumna. Piper and Sterling are the first recipients of the DYA award that was established in 2012 by the K-State Alumni Association’s Student Alumni Board to recognize young alumni who are excelling in their professions and contributing to their communities.
