Football season is here, and the Wildcats are ready to take the field for the first game of the season this Saturday, Sept. 5, at Bill Snyder Family Stadium. Adding to the excitement, K-State Athletics also will be celebrating the completion of the brand-new Vanier Family Football Complex.

The 132,000-square-foot building was completed in just seven months by the construction management team of Mortenson and GE Johnson Construction, in conjunction with sports design firm Populous. Features include a world-class strength and conditioning center with a ramp for plyometric workouts; a top-notch sports medicine facility complete with two hydroworks underwater treadmills; a theater room; and a walk-out tunnel with Coach Snyder’s 16 Goals on pillars and “family” written above the door.

“It’s incredible,” sophomore place kicker Matthew McCrane said of the new state-of-the-art complex. “I came in at a perfect time. I got to see the old complex and I get to see the new, so I have a great appreciation for everything. It’s a great facility. It really is truly incredible.”

The new complex will serve as the backdrop as K-State opens its 120th season of football by hosting South Dakota. The game is slated for a 6:10 p.m. CDT kickoff and will be shown worldwide on K-StateHD.TV beginning at 5:10 p.m. with the K-State Gameday preview show.

Players said they are ready to start the season and show fans how they can perform.

“As a team, I want us to really come together as a family, as a unit,” said senior cornerback Morgan Burns. “I want us to build a brotherhood.”
