The Varsity K Club is back. The organization — which is open to all former Wildcat student-athletes — dates back to the early 1940s but was dismantled in the 1970s. Kansas State University Athletics is relaunching the program, and all former K-State student-athletes from any of the department’s 20-plus sponsored programs since athletics began in 1896 are invited to join.

The club will officially launch during the inaugural Varsity K Club Weekend, Nov. 20-22, and will provide student-athletes the opportunity to reconnect with former teammates and get involved with the current athletics programs.

“One of our goals of creating a world-class student-athlete experience [is that] it doesn’t just end when you graduate and finish your last play or your last pitch,” said Matt Giller ’11, ‘14, director of Varsity K Club and former student-athlete. “It continues throughout your entire life. It’s just something we strive to do and just try to reconnect with our athlete alumni and keep them involved.”

To be eligible for membership in the Varsity K Club, all former student-athletes must have left their respective programs in good standing while also meeting at least one of the following criteria:

• Lettered in their respective sport.
• Appeared on an active roster while attending K-State.

There is no charge to join the Varsity K Club. Active members of the Varsity K Club will receive benefits such as a membership card, invitations to exclusive Varsity K Club events and reunions, a Varsity K Club car decal and more.

Legendary K-State basketball player Ernie Barrett ’51, ’56 said he is pleased to see the return of the Varsity K Club.

“It was very instrumental in players getting more acquainted with each other and also with faculty and what was going on with Kansas State University,” he said.
