K-State Alumni Association receives Insight Into Diversity magazine’s 2024 Alumni Association Inclusive Excellence Award
The K-State Alumni Association received the 2024 Alumni Association Inclusive Excellence
Award from Insight Into Diversity magazine, the largest and oldest diversity and inclusion publication in higher education.
The Alumni Award honors alumni association programs, culture and initiatives that
encourage and support diversity, inclusion and a sense of belonging for all alumni,
regardless of racial or ethnic background, sexual or gender identity, religion, socio-economic
status, world view and more.
The K-State Alumni Association will be featured, along with 31 other recipients, in
the June 2024 issue of Insight Into Diversity magazine.
“We know that alumni associations are not always recognized for their dedication to
diversity, inclusion and belonging,” says Lenore Pearlstein, owner and publisher of Insight Into Diversity magazine. “We are proud to honor these college and university alumni associations
as role models for other institutions of higher education.”
Brandon Moreno, assistant director of alumni and diversity programs for the K-State
Alumni Association, is proud to highlight the Association's historical and ongoing
commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB).
"We have always been proactive in recruiting, retaining and advancing a diverse alumni
staff," Moreno stated in the award nomination. "In 1992, the K-State Alumni Association
was the first association in the Big Eight, and later the Big 12 Conference, to hire
a staff member whose primary role was for DEIB initiatives. We then went a step further
and were first in the conference to hire a female alumni director – president and
CEO in 1994."
Some of the Association's DEIB initiatives include the Council for Alumni Belonging;
three student award programs: the International Leadership Awards, the LGBTQ+ Leadership
Awards and the Robinson Family Multicultural Leadership Awards; Black Alumni Reunion
and Hispanic Alumni Reunion; International Block Party; and more.
