Southwest Catbackers award scholarships to students in Liberal-Seward County area

Southwest Catbackers

Fifteen area students have been awarded scholarships to Kansas State University totaling $20,000. The scholarships were awarded by the Southwest Catbackers and the K-State Alumni Association. The Southwest Catbackers are located in the Seward, Haskell, and Stevens county areas.

The recipients are Morgan Anderson, Ella Beesley, Faith Beesley, Jayden Burrows, Tobias Grubbs, Grant Niehues and Lakota Persing, Hugoton, Kansas; Lanee Harp, Hady Martinez, Landon Martinez, Lizeth Moreno Valles and Zaira Perez, Liberal, Kansas; and Christian Cesar Pena, Jerry Houdashelt and CT Vaughan, Sublette, Kansas

“We are so pleased to congratulate these outstanding students,” said Alan Fankhauser, associate director of alumni programs for the K-State Alumni Association. “The Alumni Association board of directors is committed to helping prospective students attend K-State. We greatly appreciate local alumni and friends who have helped make these awards possible through their loyal support.”

There are more than 379 K-State alumni and friends in the Seward, Haskell, and Stevens county areas. 

The scholarships are for the 2025-26 academic year. The Alumni Association annually awards more than $650,000 in student scholarships with funding provided by local K-State alumni and friends and Alumni Association programming.
