K-State students select 2027 Student Ambassadors
Two students have been chosen to represent Kansas State University as the 2027 Student Ambassadors.
Matthew Hendricks, junior in agricultural economics and pre-law, Bird City, Kansas, and Lucy Roy, junior in elementary education, Shawnee, Kansas, were announced as the ambassadors Oct. 17 during K-State’s Homecoming football game against the University of Kansas.
Established by the K-State Alumni Association in 1977, the Student Ambassador program elects two students each year to represent the student body at Alumni Association events throughout the state and at university activities.
Roy and Hendricks will visit with prospective students and alumni; attend Student Alumni Board meetings and activities; assist with programming on campus such as the Alumni Fellows program, All-University Homecoming Committee and other special events; and assist the President's Office as needed.
They were elected during Homecoming Week by a student vote from a group of six semifinalists. The ambassadors serve a one-year term, and each receives the Kirk Family Student Ambassador Scholarship of $2,500, clothing from Manhattan clothing store Borck Brothers and an official K-State ring from Balfour and the Alumni Association.
Typically, ambassador candidates excel academically and are extensively involved in volunteer and philanthropic activities. Hendricks and Roy are role models for these qualities.
Hendricks is a member of FarmHouse fraternity, where he has served as alumni relations chair; Student Governing Association, where he served as external affairs director, and deputy attorney general; and the Agricultural Economics Ambassadors. Additionally, he has been a volunteer for Leadership Southern Leavenworth County.
“As a fourth generation K-State student, who has built their college experience around campus involvement and leadership, I want to be able to contribute and communicate the sense of belonging and purpose that K-State has given me to past, present and future students,” he said.
Roy is a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, where she served as vice president of standards; and as a College of Education Ambassador, where she served as recruitment chair and vice president. Additionally, she was a member of Quest Freshman Honorary.
“I want to be able to promote K-State’s excellence, share my Wildcat pride, and build meaningful connections with past, present and future K-Staters through service to the university,” she said.
“Like their predecessors, Matthew and Lucy show great K-State pride,” said Josh Diazdeleon, associate director of alumni programs and adviser to the Ambassadors. “The Alumni Association is excited to host them at our upcoming events for the year and for our greater Wildcat Community to meet them. They are great examples of the K-State spirit.”
